Do You Have a Vision For Your Blog?
I believe you need to have a vision for your blog. I call it a vision, but you may call it a plan, a purpose, or something else. What I mean is that you need to have some idea in mind about what your blog will become.
For example, on my dog blog, I envisioned a place where people who love dogs could come to learn about dogs but also to be entertained, to discover fun websites about dogs, and in general to escape from their troubles to the fun and interesting world of dogs. I wanted it to be a site that would be good for kids too.
I guess I had myself in mind as the target audience! (Nothing wrong with that, as long as there are plenty of other people like me who would enjoy it also.)
The point is that for every post, I asked myself if it fit in with the vision of my blog. I did not post the depressing dog news, like dogs being abused, etc. This would be ok for another type of dog blog, but not one that was focused on entertainment and fun. I believe that is why my readers loved it so much. They knew what to expect when they read my blog.
I think it is the blogs that don’t have a vision, that flounder and get lost. They jump around to different approaches and lose their loyal readers.
The best example was a while ago, I was reading this blog calld SubNixus. It was all about how to make money online. Then all of a sudden, it did a complete about-face and turned into a blog about how money was bad and how the author was going to travel the country with no money. Talk about losing your readers!
So don’t do that. Decide on a vision or plan for your blog and stick to it. If you want to totally change focus, it would be better to start a different blog.
